'Invisible Impact', Booth #9, Southwest Village Green, is a student-led community awareness initiative dedicated to raise awareness and understanding of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which includes Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis. Our team of high school seniors, Ella Alkhayri, Amanda Kalmar, and Shruti Movva are a part of the Olentangy Liberty High School DECA chapter and are working to make the often-invisible challenges of these conditions more visible to our community. As part of our campaign, we organize several community awareness events, share educational content, and collaborate with advocates to amplify the voices and resources of their community.
Blood Drive Awareness, Booth #9, Southwest Village Green
Our project is a student-led community initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the blood shortage and increasing blood donation across Central Ohio. Thejan Nelahonne, Rishabh Vora, and Gordon Yu are part of the Olentangy Liberty High School DECA chapter and partner with Versiti Blood Center of Ohio, the nonprofit blood supplier for Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center. As part of our campaign, we host community blood drives, deliver blood donation lessons at local elementary and middle schools, and run pop-up outreach stands at community events. Through these efforts, we hope to educate our community about the importance of donating, address common misconceptions about eligibility, and rebuild the generation of young donors lost since the COVID pandemic.
Moms Demand Action, Booth #69, Dewey’s Pizza Plaza (W. New England Ave.)
Be SMART is a program out of the Moms Demand Action organization. We advocate for safe firearm storage. People in your community are parents and caregivers and we would like to provide them with resources on safe firearm storage that can help protect their children, themselves and the community at-large. Research shows that most unintentional shootings involve firearms that were improperly secured. Be SMART encourages all adults to:
Secure all guns in homes and vehicles
Model responsible firearm behavior
Ask about unsecured firearms in homes their children visit
Recognize the role of guns in suicide prevention
Tell others about the importance of responsible gun storage
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Help us make sure everyone in our community has a great Thanksgiving dinner this year! We’re collecting cornbread mix to help round out holiday meals for Worthington Resource Pantry. You can drop off to us every Saturday from 10/10 - 11/14 at our information booth!
