Architectural History of the St. John's Campus - America 250 at St. John's Series
Architectural History of the St. John's Campus - America 250 at St. John's Series
The land fronting the southeast section of the village green has been set aside for an Episcopal church for more than 220 years, when Worthington was still little more than a written agreement drawn up in Connecticut. Ever since their arrival in 1803, Episcopalian settlers and their faith’s descendants have preserved the site as a geographic and spiritual center of the town they first envisioned. In honor of America's 250th Birthday, the St. John's Worthington Historic Preservation Fund is sponsoring a series of talks and tours related to the intertwined histories of Worthington and its first faith community. This walking tour of St. John’s Episcopal Church properties—the 1831 church, the 1927 parish house, the township hall and the preschool—will explore how their architecture evolved over time as the congregation’s and the city’s needs changed.

Worthington's Revolutionary War Veterans - America 250 at St. John's Series
Many Worthingtonians know that Scioto Company members and town founders Abner Pinney, Israel Case, and William Thompson served in America's struggle for independence, but did you know that two Minute Men, a member of the Green Mountain Boys, and a New Hampshire soldier who fought at Bunker Hill are also here? In honor of America's 250th Birthday, the St. John's Historic Preservation Fund is sponsoring a series of talks and tours related to the intertwined histories of Worthington and its first faith community. Ted Dziemianowicz will lead a tour in the St. John's Churchyard to tell of the service of ten early Worthingtonians in the American Colonies' fight for independence ... and how, decades later, they wound up in Worthington!
We will gather behind the church, in the churchyard (cemetery). Please wear suitable walking shoes and sun protection. In the event of rain please come to the "patio" front doors just to the right of the church entrance. The event will be held inside in lecture format. Light refreshments served afterward.
